History & Progress
Iqra University was established in 2000 under charter by the Govt. of Sindh vide Sindh Government Ordinance No.VI of 2000 having Campuses in all the four Provinces and having collaboration with foreign universities. Iqra University offers a diverse range of graduate and post-graduate courses as well as PhD programs of International level in Management Sciences, Computer Sciences and Engineering, Education and Learning Sciences, Media Sciences, and Fashion Designing.
In recognition to the Iqra’s distinctive efforts in providing quality education in Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa, the Higher Education Commission Pakistan issued “No Objection Certificate” to elevate the status of the Iqra University Peshawar Campus into a Government Chartered and HEC Recognized Independent University namely “Iqra National University (INU)” vide letter No. 15-30/HEC/A&A/2009/1396 dated November 16, 2009. To fulfill all the prerequisites of a university in the light of provisions of Federal Universities Ordinance (FUO) 2002 the management acquired a piece of land in the posh area of Hayatabad Peshawar and invested a handsome amount of Rs. 80 million in civil works. The University shifted to its new campus in the end of September 2010 and the Fall Semester 2010 classes commenced over there.
The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) awarded charter to the university in the name and style of “The Iqra National University Ordinance 2010” vide “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ordinance No. VII of 2010” on 25/11/2010. Thus Iqra National University became the first private sector university that is awarded charter by the Provincial Government after the change of name of the province from “North Western Frontier Province” to “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa”.
