Up to one hundred and fifty two Laptops were distributed among deserving students of five University of Peshawar departments and two constituent colleges in two separate ceremonies held at Convocation Hall University of Peshawar and Jinnah College for Women respectively. The ceremonies would be followed by distribution of twenty eight hundred and forty Laptops among meritorious students of BS four years’ degree programme in University of Peshawar departments.

Chairman Senate Standing Committee for Higher Education Senator Abdul Nabi Bangash was the chief guest of the day and distributed Laptops among students at the ceremony held at Convocation Hall University of Peshawar. He was accompanied by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan and Deans of faculties.

Among the one hundred and ninety four countries of the world, Pakistan stands at 192 as regards the allocation of budget for education is concerned, said Senator Nabi Bangash in his speech. He added the allocation for education in the country is not more than a mere 1.7 % of the GDP which is very discouraging.

About the financial crisis in Universities he said that award of NFC prior to eighteenth constitutional amendment has created problem for health and education sector. The central Government must fulfill their responsibility until the 8th NFC award in 2014, he added.

Mr. Bangash said that due to his committee interest, out of the 5.9 billion required recurrent budget for higher education institutions, 3 billion has been released and we are trying for the rest.

There should be cut in budget of the Prime Minister Secretariat, CM Secretariat and the funds being given to ministers and member assemblies, but not for education. This is because I think education is more important than any other sector, he added.

The Senator urged the students to make better use of Laptops and become member of the global family of research and development.
