2-day Digital Youth summit 2014 to be held from May 21st in Peshawar

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Department of Information Technology in collaboration with KPK IT board, Peshawar 2.0 organization, and World Bank, is going to organize a two-day Digital Youth Summit 2014, from 21st to 22nd May in Peshawar.

The announcement was made by KP Minister for Information Technology, Shahram Khan Tarakai while briefing the media persons regarding the first-ever digital summit titled: Brining together the next general of digital innovators in Pakistan at conference room of KPKIT board hereWednesday.

Flanked by IT secretary Zafar Iqbal, and Director Marketing at KPK IT board Shahnaz Shamsher and other relevant officials, the Minister informed that it would be first ever digital summit in Pakistan, which is going to be held under auspicious of KP government, provincial IT department and Board, for which WB is providing financial assistance of $ 50,000 for organizing the event.

He added the summit has been divided two-part including conference and Expo, which will be focusing on three-tier, freelancing, innovation and startup.

Shahram Khan further explained that more than 300 local and foreign delegates would participate in conference, which the foreign delegates mostly will participate from Singapore, Sri-Lanka, US, Lebanon, neighbouring countries and rest part of the world.

He said the second part of digital summit, comprised on Business and Trade Expo, aiming to create innovation and awareness among youth about E-businesses and marketing tools for promotion of brands and products.

Regarding the introduction of IT policy, the Minister said that the policy draft has been prepared, which will be soon moved in provincial cabinet for endorsement.

He said it will be holistic policy, which would helpful to find out IT solution of all provincial government departments under integrated means.

About the future planning in IT solution and programs, Shahram Tarakai said that the IT department is introducing citizens facilitation centre with help of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), which will be launched in Peshawar, and later on divisional and tehsil level in the province. Similarly, he said a data centre would be established.

Recounting achievements of KP IT department, the Minister said they had established a complaint re-addressal cell, web-portal, E-showcasing, formulation of Right to Service Act, introduction of HR system, file tracking, file management, licensing, prison management, IT traffic control, while now introducing HMR and HMIS system in health sector.

He also informed the government would establish an IT excellence centre, for which funds would be allocated in provincial Annual Development Program in next fiscal year 2014-15.
