A three-day health research oriented conference begins at Institute of Basic Medical Science (IBMS) to promote the health research culture in the province with the collaboration of Khyber Medical University and Higher Education Commission on Friday.
In the conference national and international research scholars as well as medical students were also participate to present 79 research papers, posters presentation and scientific question would be also part of the conference.
On the occasion Chief Guest Vice Chancellor (VC) Khyber Medical University (KMU) Prof Dr Mohammad Hafizullah said that KMU was keenly addressing the lack of capacity as well as research related issues by focusing on research oriented training opportunities in our various institutions through Bachelor, Master, M. Phil and PhD programs.
Registrar Dr Fazal Mahmood, Director Academics Prof Dr Shad Mohammad, Prof Dr Tasleem Akhtar and Director Research Prof Dr Mukahtiar Zaman were also present at the occasion.
Prof Dr Mohammad Hafizullah said research was an integral part of higher education and its due importance cannot be ignored especially in health education. He said KMU was focusing on research oriented activities and it was the base line of all of our educational programs. Prof Hafizullah while highlighting the importance of research, said, KMU was offering a unique program of health research capacity building to strengthen and institutionalize health research in the academic institutions and health care system of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said that the university organizes annual conference to further enhance the effectiveness of the program and to create a forum for the presentation of health research done in the province on regular basis since 2009. The research value base at KMU was reflective of its social and contractual accountability to the diverse cultures of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and targets areas that have direct relevance to community and health professionals needs, he added.
He highlighted that the purpose of this conference was not only to show the research conducted so far but more over to inculcate the research culture among the students and faculty of undergraduate and postgraduate institutions.
While updating the audience on KMU achievements the VC said KMU’s six years journey of success was going on but they should remember that six years were not a long period for building a university and they were heading towards right direction through a natural process. He said with seven constituent institutes i.e IPM&R, IPH&SS, KIMS, KINS, IBMS, IHPE, IPMS and MHR and 26 affiliated institutions, KMU was gaining momentum and hopefully in the near future the university would achieve its target.
Prof Hafizullah said establishment of Institute of Hematology, Institute of Diabetes, Institute of Pulmonology, Research Institute of Communicable Diseases and Institute of Human Genetics were their future plans and with the passage of time and with the availability of source these plans would be materialized. He further said that focused on higher education and research was not only the need of the hour but it was also important to over come the disease burden and health related issues of the general public, adding, that through combination of PhD, MHPE and MHR they would be able to produce a brilliant and ideal combination of health profession.
Prof Dr Tasleem Akhtar, Director Research Prof Dr Mukahtiar Zaman and Deputy Director Research Dr. Zeeshan Kiberia also addressed the inaugural session.
