The four day capacity building workshop got underway at the University of Peshawar. The training is jointly organized by Centre of Biotechnology and Microbiology UoP and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Directorate of Science and Technology, in which some thirty M. Phil, PhD researchers of eight Universities are participating. The aim of the workshop is to introduce new techniques in the field of biotechnology and train them on PCR, ELISA and Gel Electrophoresis etc.
Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan was the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony. He was accompanied by Dean of Life and Environmental Sciences Prof. Dr. Amir Nawaz Khan, Director of the Centre of Biotechnology Prof. Dr. Ghousia Lutfullah and Director DoST Dr. Javed Bangash.
Addressing the ceremony the Vice Chancellor said that trained human resource in biotechnology was need of time in order to know about new trends in the field. He added it was an undoubted fact that theory guides and practical decides and the scholars should make best use of this training opportunity to become resilient professionals.
Dr. Jan said that only 5% of the Pakistani population gets a chance of entering a higher education institution reveals the fact that much was needed to enhance literacy rate and bring socio economic revolution in the country. “You are one of those luckiest ones who have made it to the Universities and should grab all the possible resources on hand to groom yourself and contribute to the society. He urged the scholars to right research proposals so that the general public should benefit from their work.
Director DoST Dr. Javed Bangash viewed that the objective of the training was to strengthen University Industry linkages. He added the training was the second of its kind and in line with the new trends in biotechnology. He requested the Vice Chancellor to make it mandatory for the researchers to make their PhD researches more practical and that could benefit the general public at large.
