University of Peshawar Convocation 2012 for the session of postgraduate students of the session 2010 was held on Tuesday wherein 481 graduates were conferred degrees on the day including eleven M. Phil and ten Ph. Ds.

Thirty one students with distinction in various disciplines comprising nineteen males and twelve females were awarded gold medals by the chief guest Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Barrister Syed Masood Kausar.

Addressing the students the Governor said an educated person is the one who listen and respects others ideas. Islam is the most progressive religion and, we not need a handful of miscreants, to dictate terms.

We want Pakistan of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah where there is total tolerance and freedom subject to morality and religion, he added. The military and law enforcement agencies of the country have laid unprecedented sacrifices for taking care of the physical and ideological boundaries of this country, the Governor said. Now it’s time for society particularly the youth of this country to deliver and, not to let away the sacrifices of our forces, he opined.

The Governor announced establishment of a student affair cell at the Governor Secretariat to look after the genuine problems and issues confronting the youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities.

About the financial crisis of the KP Universities he said the issue would be treated on immediate basis with the federal government.

However as after the eighteenth constitutional amendment higher education has devolved to provinces, so they must take the issues of financial crunch of KP varsities on war footings as well.

This is because allocation of funds for education is not a spending at all, in fact it is a long term investment for a prosperous Pakistan, he added. The Chancellor appreciated the efforts of University of Peshawar towards strengthening academia industry linkages through closely working with Tribal Area Chamber of Commerce and Women Business Development Centre for promotion of entrepreneurship in the country. He announced special cash award for the medal winners.
