The officials of education directorate Fata Secretariat have failed to take action against headmasters of government high schools in Khyber Agency for long absenteeism despite several letters being sent by agency education officer to them, seeking action against them.

In this correlation, a letter forwarded by Agency Education Officer (AEO) to education directorate Fata says that this has been the practice of all schools principals that they do not record their attendance in daily attendance registers. It further explained that despite repeated orders of undersigned they are consequently absenting themselves without prior permission.

The letter further stated that Dr Muhammad Hanif Khan who is performing duty as lecturer in Qurtaba University Hayatabad despite his official responsibility in GCMHS Landikotal. The said principal is hardly visiting his school once a month and burderning the school at the mercy of CT teacher Mr Kamal, it informed. According to a letter, a class has been allotted to a sweeper who has broken the boundary wall of the school accommodating his family in that class room. The principal was directed several times to refrain from permitting sweeper to accommodate his family in classroom, it added.

The use of the classroom for residential purpose is a potential threat for the school situated in one of the sensitive areas, it indicated.

As the letter further attracted the attention of education directorate officials said that Mr Fazlur Rehman, principal at Government High School Mohammad Khan Kalli Landikotal is least interested to focus on his duty and school. As per the information, the principal has left no stone unturned in appointing himself in all boards and university exams in order to disappear himself from school duty.

Because of his absence from school, the schools strength is decreasing day to day and those high classes enrollment is so meager that does not justify the existence of a high school, it further stated.

Another Headmaster of Government High School Khar Ghali Landikotal, Mr Zahid Khan , is also visiting hardly once in two months. Mr Riaz Shah an SET teacher is running the school. Constant complaints are being received against the principals resorting absenteeism in schools, it added.

Strict actions have been demanded in the letter sent by AEO to education directorate Fata against the principals for absenteeism. However so far no concrete action has been taken against the principals and they are still behaving like past, sources added.

But on the other side, the teachers in Kam Shelman government high school, Tod Kamr and Parang Dara government high schools, the principals have been hardly attending the school once in a month.

The constant absence of schools headmasters would certainly impact the students and their study as an institution without a principal could not be run, teachers added. Despite repeated efforts, the officials of education directorate Fata could not be contacted for their comments over the matter.
