Students of Institute of Physics & Electronic, University of Peshawar (UoP) presented their more than 25 scientific models in one-day annual research model exhibition of the institute.
The festival was inaugurated by Provincial Minister of Science & Technology, Shahram Tarakai on Friday. Provincial minister accompanied by Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohammad Rasul Jan and Director of the Institute Dr. Yasin Iqbal visited models and appreciated students’ work. The models included first sniffer system based on GSM, Cell phone controlled cum obstacle detector cum LCD display, scrolling of SMS messages on a dot matrix display based on GSM, Microcontroller based intelligent security code lock system, automatic traffic light density control system, small unmanned ground vehicle and security based semi-autonomous vehicle.
Addressing the audience as a key speaker Shahram Tarakai said that the creative work of the students showed that the province was equipped with latent talent yet of the unfavorable prevailing situations in the area.
He added that the coalition government of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa was committed in promotion state of art research culture in universities across KP so that the present wave of brain drain of excellent minds from the province and FATA was stopped.
Minister went further to add that due to lack of compatible job opportunities most of the countrymen were heading toward European and Middle Eastern countries in the past and the present government was fully committed to create suitable job opportunities for them.
Minister while addressing the students said that the country was passing through a turbulent time and present state of affairs of the region posses challenges upfront and in such like situations the young and educated youth had to jelled together in order to take the country out of crisis.
VC Mohammad Rasul Jan in his address said that the university was not confined to produce more graduates but it is focusing more on research as well as outreach activities in order to build a knowledge based economy. He added that the varsity was committed to policy of complete impartiality and accountability. VC praised the initiative like Right to Information Bill of the incumbent government.
Earlier Director of Physics & Electronics in his inaugurating remarks termed development of science and technology as in integral for the country’s development. He added that institute had thirteen Ph.D facilities with diverse specialties. He underlined the need for use of modern technological equipment to explore untapped natural resources of KP and FATA.
