Islamia College Peshawar (ICP) would arrange mega events this year in order to mark Centenary Celebrations of Islamia College, which was established in 1913, said Vice Chancellor of ICU Dr. Ihsan Ali in press briefing here in Khyber Union Hall of the varsity on Sunday.
The mega event would include opening ceremony, grand students and teachers’ Day, Academic & Research related function, literary and artistic events, sports galas, reunions of college alumni and retired faculty and other celebrities who were connected to the college on one way or another, VC informed.
He added that grand children of the founder of Islamia College, Sahibzada Abdul Qayum Khan, Principals of the college like Sir George Roos-Kepple, Harding, Chelmsford and that of other founder contributors would be invited to the varsity in the diamond jubilee celebrations.
“We are in touch with some families while media should help us for informing other families whose forefathers were connected with the college, we would cordially invite them as well as provide them every kind of hospitality from their country to the college,” he added.
Founder of the nation Quid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah had made several visits to Islamia College, the grand children of father of the nation who are now living in India would also be invited to the celebrations, Dr. Ihsan Ali informed.
Beside this Secretary General of United Nations Organization, Imam of Ka’ba, Vice Chancellors of monumental universities across the globe like Al-Azhar University, Aligarh, Oxford and Cambridge Universities would also be invited, he added.
Chancellor of Islaima College University and Governor Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Engineer Shukatullah would inaugurate the marathon events in Governor House today (Monday) where the official anthem of the college, written by Abdul Salam Khalis would also be launched in the opening ceremony, Dr. Ihsan said.
Commenting on quarry about kidnapped Vice Chancellor of the varsity Dr. Ajmal Khan, VC Ihsan Ali said that release of Ajmal Khan would double the happiness of the centenary celebrations.
“It is the least chance for the aged Ajmal Khan to meet with his old colleagues, friends and teachers for the last time therefore I would request kidnappers not to make Ajmal Khan miss the memorial occasion,” Dr. Ihsan Ali appealed.
