Department of IR hold function to mark International Day of Solidarity with the People of Palestine

University of Peshawar, department of International Relations arranged function in connection with the November 29, International day of Solidarity with the people of Palestine at the Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Hall. Walid Abu Ali, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Pakistan was the chief guest of the day and highlighted the key issues being faced by the people of the occupied territory.

Due to the Israeli atrocities and siege of the Gaza Strip, more than two third of the population of Palestine are living a refugee life today, said the Ambassador in his address. He added the muslim countries should unite for the liberation of Paesltine. He was of the opinion that the OIC has failed to deliver and unite the muslim countries, adding that the same organization was actually established to resolve the long standing issues of Palestine and Kashmir, but to no avail.

Pakistan as brother Islamic country was helping a great deal to educate the youth of Palestine and up till now more than forty five thousand students got higher education here, the Ambassador said. He informed that in the present government set up of Palestine eleven ministers and member parliament are the ones who got did their graduation from Pakistani Universities.

Responding to a student query, he said the internal differences in politics between Hamas and Fatah in a way has created hurdles in solving the liberation of the state of Palestine

About the Israeli hegemonic design he said local Palestinian are deprived from their right on water, what to talk about others. He quoted that there are around six hundred thousand Isreali settlers, and a Palestinian local gets one liter of water after the settlers are provided with 70 liters first.

To create more opportunities  for higher education to the Palestinian brothers, University of Peshawar would allocate one seat each in the 45 disciplines of UoP in both the BS, Masters and research degree Programmes, said VC, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan in his address. He called for economic reintegration of the muslim world to overcome threats from the west.

Chairman IR Department Prof. Dr. Adnan Sarwar Khan, Dean of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Naeem ur Rehman also spoke on the occasion.
