The faculty board of Numerical and Physical and Sciences in a meeting held on Wednesday have decided in principle to upgrade the department of Mathematics University of Peshawar to the level of Institute of Applied and Pure Mathematics. The meeting was chaired by Dean Faculty of Numerical and Physical Sciences Prof. Dr. Muhammad Riaz.
The decision would be implemented soon after approval from the University bodies said the chair on the occasion. He said production of professionals with expertise in a specific field is the need of time and the step has been taken to achieve the same. Meanwhile the Board was informed about various facilities being offered in the faculty especially at the Centralized Resource Laboratory.
The Dean said that CRL is the only laboratory of its kind in the country with state of the art research facilities for physicists, engineers and scientists of Pakistan. He added presently researchers from across Pakistan including Quaid e Azam University, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute are benefited from the lab.
The meeting also accorded approval of new courses for the various departments within the faculty. Former Dean Prof. Dr. Muhammad Riaz, Chairman Mathematics Department Dr. Gulzar, Chairman Department of Computer Sciences Saeed Mehfooz and others were also present in the meeting.
