Disabled Day function held

To commemorate the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) together with Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and Pakistan Institute of Prosthetic and Orthotic Sciences (PIPOS) organised a function for special persons at the PIPOS centre, Hayatabad, on Tuesday.

Children, who are getting rehabilitation and treatment for disabilities caused by mines, bomb blasts and other accidents participated in different events, including various sports activities.

The ICRC head of Peshawar sub-delegation Beatrice Oechsli, Errol Lishman ICRC coordinator for Orthopeadic programme, Dragoslav Ciro Blazevic, ICRC coordinator for Weapon Contamination Programme along with Engineer Ghani Gul Mehsud, chairman PRCS Fata and Wasif Jan, coordinator PRCS Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society also attended the function.

Speaking on the occasion, PIPOS Chief Executive Dr Bakht Sarwar emphasised on the importance of reintegrating persons with disabilities in the society.He told the audience that persons with disabilities have to fight their disabilities everyday of their lives and that is why it is important for them to continue visiting facilities like PIPOS where they can get quality treatment free of cost.

He also thanked the ICRC for its continued support to the PIPOS centre.Engineer Ghani Gul Mehsud stressed on the need of having physical rehabilitation facilities in the far-flung areas of KP and Fata.At the end of the function, children with disabilities received school bags, colour pencils and other gifts from the ICRC.
