Dr Ahmad awarded professor emeritus status

The founding principal of Khyber College of Dentistry (KCD) Dr Ahmad Iqbal has been awarded the status of professor emeritus by Khyber Medical University in recognition of his services for promotion of dental care in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Dr Ahmad Iqbal, who is not a native resident of the province, came to Peshawar in 1964 after his return to the country on completion of his doctorate degree from the University of Munich in Germany in 1958.He served at the University Dental Hospital in Germany for five years before coming to Pakistan.

He preferred to join Khyber Medical College and was assigned the task to establish the department of dentistry in the college. He launched the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course.

At the time of starting BDS graduation programme, there were only four qualified dental surgeons in the province and its adjacent tribal belt.

Over the years, he developed the department and brought it first to the level of college that is Khyber College of Dentistry in 1990. Later the college was developed as a postgraduate institute. He retired from service in 1991.
