Edu institutes can help nation to cope with challenges: Governor

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Engineer Shaukatullah while appreciating the courageous and steady progress of the newly established University of Swabi at Ambar in District Swabi has said, “it indeed are the academic institutions which have enable to the nation to cope with the challenges of present day age and this university also carries a lot of expectations to contribute significantly in this respect.

Briefly speaking at the 1st Session of the Senate of the University at Governor’s House here on Wednesday, the Governor said “establishment of strong base for every sphere of academic system of the institution is must to ensure better outcome of future endeavours and make it compatible with any of the developed institutions of the country within shortest possible time”.

Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani, Special Assistant to Chief Minister of the Province also attended the meeting of the senate beside its other learned members who also included provincial secretary Higher Education, Mrs Farah Hamed Khan, representatives of the provincial Finance and Establishment Department, Ex-Chief Secretary Muhammad Azam Khan, Vice Chancellor, Haripur University, Prof: Dr. Nasir Ali Khan and others. 

Referring to importance of introducing modern disciplines in academic persuits of the University, the Governor said, “it is a good initiative on part of its management and hoped that it would forward ahead in line with the set standards of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in letter and spirit”.

Earlier, the Senate approved its rules of business; annual report; induction of new members to the learned forum as well as the syndicate and the academic council of the university.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Dr. Noor Jehan briefed the senate about the salient features of institution which also encompassed academic and co-curricular persuits and infrastructure development of the institution. 

The university, she said, with three disciplines and 36 Faculty members including 15 with Ph.D level studies is formally functional since December last and eleven more departments have been added recently for which selection of faculties and supporting staff in the progress. Despite a new institution, she added, all its bodies especially the syndicate and the Academic Council are fully functional and has already concluded MoUs with certain institutions of international repute which also included Alberta University of Candada.
