First Round of 15th All Pakistan Inter-Universities Debate Contest for Allama Iqbal shield held at Agha Khan Auditorium Hall on Thursday. The contest was organised by Literary Society of Peshawar varsity.
Acting chairman of Journalism & Mass Communication Department Dr Shah Jahan Syed was the chief guest of the event. Large number of students from different departments of the university delivered speeches on different topics. Urdu debaters were given the topic “Reh gai rasam-e-Azaa, Rooh-e-Bilali na rahi” while topic for English debaters was “Love is misunderstanding between two fools”.
Erum Mir, Ali Imran and Irfan Haider of Psychology, Bio-Technology and Geology departments received first, second and third prize respectively by presenting best Urdu speeches while Shumaila Zaib, Madiha Qayum and Syeda Maimona of English Department and Law College were given the top three prizes for presenting best English speeches respectively.
Chief guest Shah Jehan Syed distributed prizes among the best performers. Addressing the participants he advised students to present their culture through their speeches while participating in national and international level contests. He further said the students must gain knowledge about different fields as it is the only way to lead the world.
President of Peshawar University Teachers Association Jamil Ahmad also addressed the participants.
