Working women continue to face attacks in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata as another female teacher was shot dead in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency close to Peshawar’s Hayatabad town here on Tuesday.
Shahnaz Ishtiaq, a senior teacher at the Government Primary School Takhta Beg in Jamrud, was on way to her home along with her 14-year old son, Danyal, when two masked motorbike riders intercepted them, official sources said.
They two were on foot and were coming towards the main road apparently to catch a bus to Peshawar,” the sources said, adding, the attackers first tortured the boy when he tried to protect his mother and fired shots into the air to frighten him before spraying his mother with bullets.
The attackers managed to escape on the motorbike before the Levies personnel arrived there and launched a search operation. The body of the slain woman was shifted to the hospital in Peshawar and later handed over to her family for burial.
She was in the profession of teaching for the last 24 years and was posted as senior teacher at the Government Girls Primary School Takhta Beg for the last two years,” Ishtiaq, the spouse of the slain teacher belonging to Kohati Gate in Peshawar, told The News.
Shahnaz was the mother of three, one of whom was accompanying her and is still in shock after witnessing the gruesome murder. Relatives said Shahnaz directed Danyal to run for life when he tried to protect her and offered resistance.
