The final round of the HEC, Inter University Hockey Tournament got underway at the (Late) Qazi Muhib Hockey Ground of the University of Peshawar. Sixteen (Universities) amongst the one hundred and twenty participating teams made it to the top round and are divided into eight zones in the four day event.
Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan was the chief guest of the opening ceremony of the concluding round. He inspected and met the members of the teams. He was accompanied by officials of the Higher Education Commission, former Captain of Pakistan Hockey team Muhammad Saqlain and others.
Addressing the ceremony the Vice Chancellor reminded the budding players about the golden period of Hockey, when no one could have dared to snatch the top championship from the Pakistani Players. He added that Peshawar valley has also produced some of the best hockey players who remained wonderful servants for the game and ambassadors of the country through their expertise in the field of hockey. Ha lamented the fact that now a days the national game of the country was passing through a rough patch and urged that special corrective measures needs to be taken to regain the past glory.
The Vice Chancellor announced construction of a state of the art change room for the hockey players adjacent to the ground. The final of the tournament would be played on March 11, 2014.
