A variety of events were witnessed in connection with the first Alumni Reunion of the Department of Psychology University of Peshawar at the Pashto Cultural Museum of UoP. The fellow psychologist proved on the day that people suffering from anxiety, depression and other forms of trauma can get rid of the resonance of their miseries without the use of medicine in the colorful event attended by around three hundred alumni of the Department. The highlight performance of the day was that of the famous love story Adam Khan Dukhanai which set up the tone and raised the bar for others to come up with something more. The trends of the trade had changed by 180 degree showed Prince Salim and Anar Kali of the year 2014. Besides the e-age heer had a realistic approach to life than that of the contemporary Ranja, revealed the fact, as to how, the girls have adapted more rapidly to the dynamics of a globalised world compared to their opposite sex.
Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan was the chief guest of the colorful ceremony. He was accompanied by Chairperson Department of Psychology Prof. Dr. Erum Irshad, VC Swat University Dr. Jehanzeb Khan and Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Naeem- ur- Rehman Khattak.
Addressing the audience the Vice Chancellor highlighted the importance of Alumni in bringing connectivity for ownership among graduates of an institution. He added the Department of Psychology had some towering personalities under whom guidance the students were equipped with latest trends in the field and new programmes were introduced far earlier than other departments and institutes of varsity.
The Vice Chancellor sought proposal from the alumni of the department to suggest measures for the introduction of forensic psychology in the department. He said that the alumni can be of great help in brining updated changed in the curricular while on the other hand they can join hands to help the needy students through financial support in completion of their studies.
Dr. Jan commended the initiative of the department in doing psychotherapy of the patients suffering from trauma in the war affected areas and bomb victims so as to bring them into normalcy. He added that the department has also helped in establishment of psychology department in other Universities as per need of the time.
Earlier Chairperson Department of Psychology Dr. Erum Irshad said that the Department has also had the unique distinction of giving three Vice Chancellors to varsities in KP. Life time achievement awards were presented to faculties members Prof. Dr. Mehr Bano, Prof. Dr. Mrs Riaz and Prof. Dr. Jehanzeb at the end.
