The National Accountability Bureau on Wednesday arrested a former secretary to the chairman of the Higher Education Regulatory Authority (Hera) for allegedly depositing public money in his personal bank account.

The authority, after being unable to recover the looted money, requested NAB to conduct an inquiry against the accused and recover the money.

The NAB statement said that private colleges and universities were to be registered with the authority by depositing registration and renewal fees after every year, for which an official bank account was maintained. However, the accused, Gulzar Ali, directed some universities and colleges to deposit their registration and renewal fees in his personal bank account in a private bank located in the University Town, Peshawar, said the statement.
