German Need Based Scholarship Award Ceremony
Cheque distribution ceremony was held in Larama campus, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University, Peshawar. Prof. Imtiaz Hussain Gillani, Vice Chancellor, University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar was the chief Guest of the ceremony. 63 students from BS 4-year programs received scholarship amount of Rs. 23,619/- each for the period of 6 months as second installment.
Assistant Registrar Admissions, Ms. Hina Tariq, welcomed the Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor and students on behalf of the university. The chief guest of the event, Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gillani in his address congratulated all the scholarship winners. He advised the students to understand the value of financial scholarship being provided to them, despite Pakistan being economically weak country. He stressed on promotion of education, particularly female education and its importance. According to him, if education is fixed, everything will be settled. He asked everyone to join hands to raise the slogan, “Four the Education, Road to Salvation” (That means give 4% of the total GDP to Education). He quoted that female enrollment ratio in different universities is greater than males which is appreciable. Therefore, efforts should be made to promote female education. He also appreciated the efforts of the worthy Vice Chancellor; Prof. Dr. Razia Sultana for putting in tremendous efforts to raise the University’s standard and focusing on research oriented education. He also offered to join hands with SBBWUP for the said purpose. Moreover, he also appreciated Dr. Razia Sultana in promoting healthy teaching and learning environment. According to him the teaching environment should be up to standard and there should be teachers training programs so as to meet the updated standards of education. He said relevant teaching quality enhancement programs should be introduced. Universities should be a part of economic wellbeing of the country. Community services should be there. Also effective leadership should be provided by the universities.
Later, Prof. Dr. Razia Sultana, Vice Chancellor, SBBWUP addressed the audience. In her address she aimed that girls of SBBWUP are competent enough to lead and contribute to the society and country at large. She said that university aims to provide safe and facilitative environment to the female community for the better future of girls and Pakistan. This is a matter of indeed pleasure that students from FATA and remote areas are pursuing degrees from this university in specialized fields. She appreciated the initiation of financial assistance and scholarship programs to promote education and providing research based studies for deserving but needy students. In this regard she expressed her gratitude to the German government for the scholarship and Higher Education Commission, Islamabad for playing a role as major facilitator in furnishing pave for funding agencies to reach the university. She also appreciated the efforts made by Government of Pakistan for offering different financial assistance schemes such as Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme, Fee Reimbursement Scheme and Need Based Scholarship Schemes for hardworking girls. She further added that our youth is ambitious, talented, has potential and is futuristic. The youth of any society is its future leaders. The best place to groom and polish them is Universities. Moreover, she aimed that in next 5 years SBBWUP will be in a position to compete all the leading national universities. And females will be considered synonymous to the progress of the nation. The overall team of University is collectively putting in continuous efforts to create partnerships and linkages with local, national and international Universities and organizations. She said that creating a consortium of nationwide women universities is also under consideration in order to work in collaboration for female education and awareness. Here research is the focus of education and university is also working to enhance the teaching quality. Teachers and students must be at the same wave length. The teachers should make efforts to make students confident, competent and educated by the end of their degrees they should not get the degree instead they should earn it an develop a lifelong relationship with the university.
The ceremony ended with cheque distribution among the students and a shield was presented to the Chief Guest by the Vice Chancellor, SBBWUP.
