Governor awards gold medals to KMU toppers

Governor Barrister Masood Kausar said that it was praiseworthy to see Khyber Medical College achieve so much in such a short period of time.

It has already gained recognition as a model medical university; innovative, distinctive and excelling at what it does”, he added.

He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony in Governor House on Wednesday wherein eight veteran figures of the education system were also given the award of ‘Professor of Emeritus’ in recognition of their meritorious services. MBBS and BDS graduates who achieved distinctive positions at the provincial level in the recently announced results were also honoured with gold medals. The ceremony was also addressed by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Hafeezullah and the principal of Khyber Medical College Fazal Mahmood.

The Governor who is also the chancellor of the university, stressing the importance of staying up to date in the field of medicine said that there was a great deal of pressure on doctors in terms of taking on the challenges and competition created by globalization.

He expressed confidence in KMU and viewed that the skill driven programmes of the university could be expected to make a strong contribution to the public as well as private health sectors not only in the province but the country too. 

While congratulating the professors of emeritus, including Prof. Dr. Nasiruddin Azam Khan, Prof. Dr. Zakiya Minhas, Prof. Dr. Sirajuddin, Prof. Dr. Tariq Nishter, Prof. Dr. Waheed Ahmad Sahibzada, Prof. Dr. Tasleem Akhtar and Prof. Dr. Syed Amjad Hussain, for being honoured with life time achievement awards, the governor said that the people of the province were lucky because they had learnt from such professionals.

He wholeheartedly congratulated the award winner graduates and advised them to always strive for the best rather than settling for average performances. He added that winning medals places a huge responsibility on the individuals and they owed it to their hard work to contribute to improving their field.

“Being bright is not the only ingredient of success in life. However, high moral and ethical standards, team work and working heard to excel is what makes a successful person.

Prof. Dr. Hafeezullah in his welcome address while highlighting the achievements of the university said that they were there to acknowledge the services of the role models of the medical profession and the remarkable achievements of the young graduates as well. 

Amongst the MBBS graduates, Khush Bakht of Khyber Institute of Medical Sciences who has achieved top position in the province was honoured with gold medal followed by Muhammad Hassan Saeed and Mahrukh Ayesha Ali of Khyber Medical College who were honoured for being adjudged as second and third at the provincial level. 

Similarly, amongst BDS graduates all the three top awards went to the graduates of Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad and amongst whom, Rabia Saeed with four distinctions got the gold medal for achieving 1st position followed by Ayesha Alamzeb and Fahmeeda Hassan who gained the honour for being second and third at the provincial level. 

Gold medals were also given to the graduates who achieved distinctions in various subjects at the provincial level.
