Govt plans eight projects for promotion of university education

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government in order to promote higher and university education has planned eight gigantic projects focusing on construction of academic blocks, purchase of vehicles for transport and additional land for building infrastructure in the public sector universities to prepare youth for moderns days challenges.

Officials in Higher Education department told APP on Friday, that the Government has planned expansion in the University of Malakand and will purchase additional land for establishment of new blocks for different departments in the University. To materialize this project, he said, Rs.140 million would be spent.

In addition to completion of left over works of academic blocks in University of Hazara with an estimated cost of Rs.60 million in current fiscal year, he said, the Government has planned to purchase buses for the University of Science and Technology Bannu, Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Women University Peshawar and University of Swat. This project would help provide students pick and drop facilities and will save their money and time.

He said 21st century marks an era of paradigm shift and only those nations will make progress and develop who have superior knowledge, skilled manpower and brain power.

Apart to bring extension in the Chemistry block of Gomal University DI Khan with an estimated cost of Rs.25 million, he said, 300 million rupees would be spent on purchase of land and construction of boundary wall of University of Swabi. To bolster women education and enhance girls literacy rate, the Government has planned establishment of Women University Campus in Swabi with an estimated cost Rs.1500 million. 

He said a campus of Malakand University would also be setup in Buner with an estimated cost of Rs.50 million against which Rs.20 million would be spent in current fiscal year, saying all these projects were reflected in Annual Development Programme 2013-14.

He said establishment of universities in KP by the Government would ensure peace, tolerance and prosperity in KP. 

The promotion of computer and IT education is the need of the hour and government took positive steps by giving introducing laptop scheme to encourage young lot, adding merit is the hallmark of the scheme. 

The officials said Government is focusing to strengthen the new universities financially and administratively and expressed optimism to complete ongoing projects well on time.
