Exploring new horizons was the aim of the first national conference on the importance of home economics education in the socio economic development of the country. Addressing the conference speakers of the field hailing from various parts of the country termed the role of home economists as integral in dealing the everyday life and stress involved with it. They said that home economics is a field that could actually be called human ecology because it encompasses all aspects of living including human development as well as financial and relationship management.
The two day moot was organized at the baragali summer campus of UoP and coincided with the 60th anniversary of the country`s first College of Home Economics of the University of Peshawar.
Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan was the chief guest of the conference. He was accompanied by Vice Chancellor University of Swat Prof. Dr. Jehanzeb and VC Malakand Prof. Dr. Johar Ali. Some two hundred delegates participated in the event from across the country while thirty research papers were presented in the twelve different sessions.
Addressing the ceremony the Vice Chancellor described home economics education as an integral part of the social and economic development of the country. He added introduction of disciplines like the early childhood development can be a handful in training mothers and professionals about the best practices involved in physical and psychological development of a child.
Bringing the female folks into the mainstream and the economic development of the country was need of time, said Dr. Rasul Jan. He viewed that skill development should be the key in Home Ec. Education so that students get to know about the art of entrepreneurship and thereby become job providers than a job seekers. The Vice Chancellor informed that the University of Peshawar is doing all out efforts to introduce work of the home economic graduates to people in the industry so that both can benefit from each other resources and resultantly products at a cheaper price becomes available to the general public.
The Principal College of Home Economics said that the college is imparting quality home economics education for the past sixty years. She added the college has been the driving force in establishment of more home economics colleges and departments in the public sector Universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
