The ninth anniversary of campus radio was celebrated at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication University of Peshawar on Thursday. Cake cutting ceremony took place on the occasion. Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz was chief guest of the day while Director General, Service Division, of Higher Education Commission Islamabad Mr. Farmanullah Anjum, faculty and students of JMC were also present.
Addressing the anniversary function the Vice Chancellor praised the contribution of Campus Radio in promoting the cause of higher education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA. He added the radio has served as a great training venue for developing radio journalism for almost a decade.
The University of Peshawar is going to take/ hire the services of campus radio for its distance learning programme. For this purpose the domain of its coverage area would be enhanced, so that the far flung distance leaner students of UoP can take benefit from lectures aired from the campus radio, he added.
Earlier the Chairman Department of Journalism and Mass Communication Prof. Dr. Shah Jehan Syed informed that hundreds of journalists have been trained through the radio, and now they are serving in various broadcasting networks in the country and abroad. He said increase in the duration of daily broadcast is in the pipeline. We have offered and extended training facility at the Campus Radio to other institutes and private Universities of KP as well.
President PUTA Jamil Chitrali praised the quality of programs aired from Campus Radio. He added the Radio can be a great help in Capacity building of the students and learning of current global trends in media.
Director General HEC Farmanullah Anjum pledged his organization support in arranging training programs under the aegis of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication University of Peshawar.
Three day workshop concludes: Three days Workshop on active citizen’s proagrmme concluded at the Institute of Social Work, Sociology and Gender Studies UoP.
he event was organized by University of Peshawar in collaboration with British Council. Twenty five students from various departments of University of Peshawar participated in it.
The students were taught leadership qualities in the workshop and we did more focus on enhancing their ability to listen and respect each other ideas, said Prof. Dr. Muhammad Niaz, Director of the Institute.
He added for the same they were given ample time to present their perspectives about the prevailing situations in the country and across the globe.
They were also given the motto of connecting themselves globally while engaging themselves with social fabrics and local norms, he said.
Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz who was the chief guest of the day said that the varsity is focusing mainly on expanding thinking of the students through co curricular activities for the development of positive thinking in them. He added this would lead to promote the latent potential of the students.
Later he distributed certificates among the participating students.
Ms. Shazia Jabeen defends her Ph.D thesis: Scholar Shazia Jabeen has been recommended for the award of Ph. D Degree in Geology after she successfully defended her research thesis in an oral defence held at National Centre of Excellence in Geology University of Peshawar. The topic her thesis was, “ Environmental Geochemistry of Attock and Haripur Basins, Pakistan.
Prof. Dr Tahir Shah of the National Centre of Excellence in Geology UoP was his research supervisor while Dr. Sheikh Saeed Ahmed served as his external examiner. Director NCE in Geology Prof. Dr. Asif khan, faculty members and students were present in her thesis defence, after which series of question answer session was held.
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Shazia jabeen completed Ph. D with the support of Higher Education Commission Indigenous Scholarship for Research students.
