Vice Chancellor Khyber Medical University Prof Dr. Hafizullah said special attention was being given to educating and training nurses and the institute had started three different educational programmes for this purpose.
He said this while distributing scholarship cheques among BSc Nursing Post RN students on Friday. The ceremony was organized by Skill Development Programme.
Registrar KMU Dr Fazal Mahmood, Coordinator Nursing Programme Nasreen Ghani, concerned officials of KMU and students of nursing attended the ceremony.
Dr Hafiullah said that unfortunately in the past the health sector was restricted to the education and training of doctors only but after establishment of Khyber Medical University every sector of health was being given due attention.
He claimed that reforms had been made in the curricula of medical education and examination system and three different education programmes had been started for nurses. VC KMU expressed the hope that the Health Department of the province would continue to support different programmes initiated by the university.
He opined that the initiative of the Skill Development Programme to provide Rs70000 annual scholarship fees and Rs3000 per month for the BSc nursing and BSc Nursing post RN students would have a positive impact on the programme.
Dr Hafizullah said that the nursing seats in the ongoing education programme would be increased and Masters in Nursing would also be introduced.He gave scholarships to 59 nursing students of the year 2012.
