KMU to establish Rs750m Institute for Nursing & Medical Technology

Three new projects of Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar namely “ Establishment of KMU Institute of Nursing & Medical Technology with estimated cost of Rs. 750.00 million, establishment of KMU Institute of Medical Sciences estimated cost of Rs. 995.00 million and strengthening of KMU with estimated cost of Rs. 450.00 million” have been conceptually approved by the relevant forums, this was stated by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Hafizullah VC KMU while chairing 13th meeting of Syndicate held at Video Conference Room of the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (IBMS), KMU Peshawar.
The VC informed the syndicate that KMU detailed an emergency advisory team comprising of medical, public health and nursing experts to visit District Swat in connection with outbreak of dengue fever in the valley and recommend precautionary measures to the concerned authorities. He added that on the successful completion of Ph.D by the KMU scholars abroad as well as completion of Ph.D studies by the scholars enrolled in IBMS, various constituent Institutes shall start functioning to the optimum and shall initiate practical research in the field of medical and allied health sciences.
Later on the Syndicate in its 13th meeting recommended 06 Faculties i.e. Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Health Profession Education & Research and Faculty of Public Health & Social Sciences for approval of the Senate. On the recommendations of the University Selection Board, the Syndicate accorded approval for appointment of Dr. Abdul Sahib Khan as Associate Professor (IBMS) and Mr. Asim Samad as Assistant Treasurer on Regular basis while that of Dr. Mohammad Tahir Sarwar as Assistant Professor on TTS basis at IBMS.
The Syndicate approved provisional / conditional affiliation (for the currently enrolled students) of RMI-School of Nursing, Peshawar and Royal College of Nursing, Swat for B.Sc Nursing (4 Yrs). While Postgraduate College of Nursing (PGCN), Peshawar for Post RN (02 Years) & Fast Track (01 Year) Program and National Institute of Health & Management Sciences, Peshawar for BS Medical Lab Technology.
The house discussed KMU Research & Ethics Statutes 2008 (Revised June 2013) in detail and recommended the revised draft for approval of the Senate with some amendments. The Syndicate also given approval to the proposed eligibility criteria of different posts for the Office of Research Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC), KMU. The Syndicate accorded approval for the grant of Ad-hoc Relief Allowance 2013, 10% of basic pay to all the KMU employees including contingent paid staff and contract employees.
