KP Governor emphasis varsities

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Engineer Shaukatullah Friday emphasized upon universities to generate research based knowledge and come up with innovations to address the issues which the people are facing.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of 3-day 5th Khyber Medical University Annual Health Research Conference held here under the aegis of its Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization, he said that research and innovation are the vehicles of positive change and the nations who led in these two areas, always lead the world.

“The gap between the developed and developing nations is widening all the time because of progress on one side and stagnation on the other and such a state of divide reflects the level of imbalance in their research focus,” he remarked.

Provincial minister for Health, Shaukat Ali Yousafzai, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Hafeezullah, Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Zaman, Director, ORIC and Prof. Dr. Junaid A. Razzaq, Chairman, Department of Emergency Medicines of Agha Khan University also spoke on this occasion and highlighted importance of research development in health sector. Referring to theme of the conference – “Today’s Research; Tomorrow’s Health”, the Governor particularly mentioned the top killer diseases and said that to him, they all need to be the integral part of the Research Agenda, 2030 of the respective institutions”.

Regarding Khyber Medical University, the Governor said, with seven constituent and 28 affiliated institutes being the single public sector institution of higher learning in the province bears the huge responsibility of fulfilling the expectations of the government.

He said that the varsity should have to cooperate with public, policymakers and managers in finding innovative solutions to the existing and emerging issues and it also has the capability in meeting the emerging challenges successfully.

He added that local solutions of the local problems will definitely lead to a positive change in the healthcare delivery system and making its efficiency up to the desired standards.

Prof. Dr. Hafeezullah earlier addressing the conference said that the university since its establishment seven years ago has developed seven constituent institutions and also bears the honour for having unique capability on certain counts at national level.

“We are going to introduce Ph.D classes in Nursing and Paramedical education; establish Research Centre for Communicable and Non-Communicable diseases; develop workable system of monitoring and evaluation of health oriented issues and from this year, M.Sc Nursing will be launched”, he said.

The students of this university, he said, on their graduation will be job providers rather seekers.
