KP govt to make universities free from politics: Khattak

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervaiz Khattak Wednesday expressed resolve to make all provincial universities as centres of excellence, knowledge and research and free from all kind of politics.

“Our first step is to make the varsities free from the government interference in all its internal matters. The higher educational institutions would be free from all kind of influence and pressure in all its internal matters,” the CM said while addressing laptops’ distribution among disabled persons here at Archives’ Hall.

He said PTI has come to power with the slogan of change and eradication of corruption, adding that unlike other political parties PTI would not support its students’ groups to achieve political objectives rather it would work for promotion of quality higher education.

The CM said that after the 18th constitutional amendment provincial autonomy the matters of universities have come under the ambit of provincial government. The PTI led provincial government would make the varsities’ system easy and simple.

He emphasized upon heads of universities to help the provincial government in its efforts to eradication nepotism and corruption and do not accept any influence of anyone in discharge of their duties and making their respective institutions the best of the country and world.

He said the provincial government is focusing to improve the education system at school, colleges and universities first instead of establishing more institutions across the province.

Pervaiz Khattak assured that his government would request the federation to allocate four per cent of the GDP for higher education in the better interest of the coming generation and the country.

Earlier, he distributed laptops among 39 disabled students of various institutions and also provided 1,009 laptops for computer laboratories of 39 colleges and Universities of the provinice.

Provincial Minister for Higher Education Mushtaq Ghani, Secretary Higher Education Farrah Hamid, Acting Chairman Higher Education Commission, Syed Imtiaz Gilani, Provincial Ministers and MPAs, Vice Chancellors of universities, Principals of Colleges and huge number of students were present on the occasion.
