KP ministers list schools, colleges, varsities opened by ANP-led govt

After four and a half years, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has established schools, colleges and universities and brought revolution in the field of education, informed three ministers of the provincial government on Friday in a press conference. 

The press conference was held to highlight the achievements of the ANP-led government during a time when the general elections were just a few months away. The press conference was organized in the Officers Mess Peshawar and addressed by Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Minster for Higher Education Qazi Mohammad Asad and Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Sardar Hussain Babak.

Minister of ESE, Sardar Hussain in his address said imparting and creating awareness of the necessity of education among the people was any government’s priority. He stated that his ministry in few years upgraded 625 primary schools to middle and 635 middle schools to high. The facility of furniture and lab was provided to around 250 schools, minister added. 

He further said under the Rokhana Pakhtunkhwa Programme (RPP) 100 schools have been constructed so far and the number will be five hundred in 2013-14. To a question Babak said the government gave service and up-gradation structure to teachers which was a record progress. Poor and deserving students were given scholarship in schools, he added.

Their government was accused of promoting Pashto language in the province, Babak said and added, they have given official status to five languages namely Pashto, Saraiki, Hindko, Chatrali and Poha. Around 29000 vacant posts in educational institutions have been filled and 2200 teacher posts have been created in the province.for teachers,

War on terror had immensely dropped the literacy rate in KP, however, the government efforts in this direction had pushed the male literacy rate to 74 per cent and female to 38 while the overall literacy rate is minister disclosed. Their government would increase development budget by 600 per cent, which will be spent on the construction of education institutions.

As many as 1600 schools remained closed due to absence of teachers and lack of basic facilities when they came to power, their government had opened around 1500 schools Babak said.

The earthquake of 2005 destroyed 2958 schools, out of these the reconstruction of 1558 schools was completed and the construction work on 754 schools was in progress.

As many as 750 schools were destroyed by militants across KP. Of these 417 schools were for boys and 333 for girls, Babak said. Flood destroyed 1694 schools out of which 1064 were boys and 630girls schools, he said, adding 589 schools had been reconstructed. 

Qazi Mohammad Asad Minister for Higher Education KP in his address threw light on development in higher education sector in the last few years and said before 2008 there were 11 universities in the entire province. Their government established nine others varsities. He further said their government established 29 colleges 15 for girls and 14 for boys in different district of the province.

Their government had the credit of introducing BS 4 years programme in colleges Qazi said. Under the Stoori Da Pakhtunkhwa programme around 93 students would be given Rs 15000 per month for two years, he added.

He stated under the Naway Sahar Laptop Scheme 25000 laptops would be handed over to students on merit base.

The provincial government has allocated rupees 1000 million for the programme, he added.
