Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar and the University of Toledo (UT), Toledo, Ohio, USA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on academic and research cooperation. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Hafizullah VC KMU and Dean College of Medicine and Life Sciences UT signed the MoU document on behalf of their respective institutions. Prof. Dr. Dorthea Sawicki Arsevete Dean & VC Graduate Health Sciences Studies College of Graduate Studies, Health Sciences Campus, UT, Internationally re known Surgeon Prof. Dr. Amjad Hussain and Prof. Dr. Imran Ali Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs College of Medicine and Life Sciences UT were also present at the MoU signing ceremony.
According to the details the purpose of the MoU is to develop academic and educational cooperation and to promote mutual understanding between the two universities. Each party agrees to develop the collaborative activities in research at doctorate and post doctorate levels in Basic Medical Sciences, curriculum development of medical, dental, paramedical, nursing and other allied health fields. Both the institutions would provide research and training opportunities in public health and social sciences and training in biostatics and epidemiology, exchange of undergraduate medical and dental students and faculty and administrative staff is also part of the MoU. Both parties are also agreed to conduct collaborative research projects and online lectures and organizing joint symposia via video link.
It is worth mentioning that the objectives of this MoU is to engage in discussions regarding collaborative activities and the exchange of faculty, staff and students and any type of financial arrangements between the parties must be negotiated and memorialized in definitive legal agreement. In the MoU each party agreed to carry out the collaborative activities in accordance with the laws and regulations of their respective countries after full consultation and approval
The MoU may be amended or modified by a written agreement signed by the representative of each party. The MoU will be valid for five years from the date of signing. Each party shall review the status of the MoU at the end of five years. The validity of this MoU may only be extended by the written consent of both the parties. The MoU may at any time during its period of validity, be terminated by one of the parties upon prior notice to the other in writing not later than six months before the termination date.
While lauding the MoU VC KMU Prof.Dr. Mohammad Hafizullah said it is a great achievement on behalf of KMU faculty and students which shall provide opportunities to them for academics and research activities. He said this MoU will enable KMU to seek guidance and support from UT in various disciplines of health sciences.
