The University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar and Department of Industries, Commerce and Technical Education, Govt of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Peshawar, have inked a memorandum of understanding, here the other day. Provincial Secretary Industries, Muhamamd Ali Shahzada and the Vice chancellor UET, Peshawar Engr. Imtiaz H Gilani signed the MoU. The agreement is aimed to provide consultancy services for the satisfactory completion of the establishment of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa University of Technology (KP UoT).
Mr. Muhamamd Ali Shahzada while addressing on the occasion, said the provincial government has realized the importance of technical cadre as a crucial factor for the socio – economic development of KP. “With the establishment of KP UoT both public sector and private polytechnic institutions will benefit by sending their students to build up their capacity at post graduate level and learning advanced and high quality skill development courses, adding, “more than 5000 students will be graduated from KP UoT as a result there will be tremendous opportunities of employment for skilled people”. The present government has already started a skill training program for 3600 people by engaging them in vocational trainings in collaboration with a UK based center of training. “The KP UoT will be another milestone for the future for which the provincial Govt. has laid the foundation”, he remarked.
Engr. Imtiaz Gilani VC UET, appreciated the Department of Industries, Commerce and Technical Education and expressed his thanks to the provincial government in posing confidence in UET Peshawar for the consultancy services and envisaging the vision plan of a new university. He said, the credit goes to PTI government which shows their commitment for improving status of human resources, “there is a huge gap in getting access to Higher Education (HE) while only 3% get the chance to enter into universities”, thus depriving a huge lot of youngsters to get this opportunity. The government has taken a right step at right time to engage this untapped potential by not only upgrading their technical skills but opening HE opportunities for them.
Dr. Sadiq Khattak, Assistant Professor Mechanical Engineering has been appointed as Project Manager KP UoT. He informed the meeting, UET Peshawar will offer its consultancy services as similar to the Scope of Work, approved by PDWP. It will also include the preparation of feasibility report of the project according to the approved scope of work, present and share with the main stakeholders, submit the final feasibility report and later on, submit the final PC-1 to the concerned quarters. Mr. Salah-ud-Din, Additional Secretary Industries, Prof. Shakeel Ahmad, DG Technical Education and Manpower Trainings (TE&MT), Mr. Muhammad Ullah, Director TE&MT, Prof. Dr. Zahid Mehmood, Dean of Engineering, Prof. Saeed Javed Tajik, Registrar, Mr. Nek Muhammad Khan, Director Finance and other senior officials from UET were also present on the occasion.
