Peshawar University has announced that Prof. Dr. Zahid Anwar`s book, “Muslim Intelligentsia in British India (1917- 47)” explores a particular aspect of Muslims’ history in the Sub-continent. This research is published in Germany in 2012 and comprises 208 pages.

The author is Professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Peshawar, KP, Pakistan. His book assesses the Comintern South Asian experiment with focus on Muslims and also analyzes the impact of the Soviet factor on freedom struggle.

This project revisits questions like why some Indian Muslims (Maulana Obaidullah Sindhi, Maulana Abdur Rab Peshawari etc) approached Soviet Russia to support freedom movement and why the colonial rulers unleashed reign of terror against Khudaihidmatgar? Did in that Great Game between British India and Soviet Russia, the two powers use indigenous people including Muslims as pawns and those Muslims try to exploit the divergences of the two empires to their own benefit? This study is first of its kind and is expected to provide valuable information regarding cost and benefit analysis of Muslims` role in that tournament of shadows.
