Governor Shaukatullah on Tuesday said that universities should formulate a result-oriented administrative system to safeguard the interest of students, further improve facilities of higher learning and ensure the future development of the respective institutions in the province.
Presiding over the Senate of the University of Peshawar (UoP) at Governor’s House here, the governor said despite financial constraints the services of universities were extremely important for ensuring quality opportunities of higher learning to the students.
Senator Farhatullah Babar, Member of Provincial Assembly Muzaffar Said, Secretary Higher Education Farah Hamed Khan, Principal Secretary to Governor Dr Fakhar-e-Alam Irfan, special secretaries of the provincial establishment and finance departments and member of the senate also attended the meeting.
UoP Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Rasul Jan briefed the participants about the salient features of the agenda items and achievements of the university.The senate took a strong exception to the constant trend of presenting deficit budget of the institution and stressed not only to cover financial deficiencies but also maintain highest standards of administrative and financial management in every sphere of its working.
Dr Rasul Jan said they had removed the loopholes in the administrative system.He said the strengthening of Psychology Department, development of HakimAbdul Jalil Nadvi University College, creation of Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies and upgrading of sports and transport facilities at the campus were the major development projects being executed presently.
The senate noted with appreciation that a high-powered committee had been constituted to find ways and means to curtail expenditures of all public sector universities, enhance their resources and ensure their efficient working.
