Seven Peshawar University Teachers Awarded

Peshawar University Teachers Association in collaboration with UNESCO held a function to honor outstanding teachers. The ceremony was held in connection with the World teachers Day. Seven teachers were awarded on the day for their services in their field of specialty. These included Prof. Dr. Jasmin Shah and Prof. Dr. Nazir Tabassum both of whom have been nominated for the Tamgha Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal for best research publication, Associate Professor Dr. Kaneez Fatima for best presentation, Dr. Niamatullah for being the youngest Ph. D faculty of the University of Peshawar. Prof. Dr. Zahoor Swati of AUP for his outstanding services in the field of Biotechnology and former Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Rashid Ahmed Tahirkheili for his outstanding performance in the field of geology.

Vice Chancellor Kohat University of Science and Technology Prof. Dr. Nasir Jamal was the chief guest of the day and distributed shields among the awarding teachers.

Speaking on the occasion he said that teachers should take their profession as a service and produce best brains for the country. He added that in the last ten years seven Pakistani Universities have made it to the list of top Universities in the world, reveals the fact that the quality of teaching is improving. However steps are needed to be taken to get current with the demands of the globalised world, he added. He called for self assessment of teachers on the day to overcome their short comings.

Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan who was the chief host of the event said that this soil has produced some of the best researchers and intellects, who enjoy world fame. He added that irony of the matter is that we in the country have not been able to recognize and honor our grates of all times. He thanked President PUTA Dr. Jamil Chitrali and UNESCO for organizing the event to recognize the services of teachers.

The ceremony was followed by an awareness walk highlighting the role of teachers in the society.
