Speakers here in a seminar on road safety organized under the auspices of National Highways & Motorway Police (NH&MP) has called for inclusion of the subject in the education curriculum to arrest the growing high toll of casualties in road accidents.
Those who addressed the seminar were included Inspector General of Police (IGP), Motorway Police, Zulfikar Ahmad Cheema, former senior civil servant, Ejaz Rahim, IGPs (Retd), Mohammad Saeed Khan, Abbas Khan, Vice Chancellor, University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Syed Imtiaz Hussein Gilani, senior journalist, Abdullah Jan and Principal, Frontier College for Women.
In their speeches all speakers appreciated the standard of the service of Motorway Police and its endeavour for creating awareness about road safety among the people.
They stressed need for inclusion of road safety as subject in the educational curriculum to arrest the growing human and financial losses in road accidents. The speakers also presented proposals for bringing reforms in issuance of driving licenses and other matters concerned with road safety.
In his speech, Inspector General (IG), Motorway Police, Zulfikar Ahmad Cheema told the audience that Motorway Police has signed an agreement with NADRA under which the former will issue driving licenses.
He said that as per proposal of the speakers Secondary School Certificate (SSC) has been adopted as minimum qualification for obtaining of the driving license.
Furthermore, he said that the amount of penalty for habitual violators will be also increased. He said that on violation the motorway police will be punching the driving licenses and the license with three punching will be cancelled.
