Stop interference in Edwards College affairs: Christians

The Christian community on Monday demanded of the provincial government to immediate withdraw advertisement for appointment of principle in Edwards College otherwise they threaten to launch a protest movement from April 09 (tomorrow) if their demand was not met.

He told a news conference at Peshawar Press Club that the provincial education department is trying to take control of the Edwards College Peshawar, by directly interfering in its affairs, which was created unrest among the Christian community. For the last three months, he said the community had used various means to stop the intervention of the provincial education department in administrative matters of the Edwards College Peshawar. Flanked by the Saints Johns Cathedral, Vicar Incharge Pastor Jozaf Khan, along with Parish Council and other members of Christian community, Ejaz Gill said that the college as autonomous education of institution of Christian under the article 20 and 60 of the constitution, while the provincial elementary and secondary education department and Law department also accepted its independent status. He added the Edwards College Peshawar, an education institute affiliated with Church of Pakistan Diocese of Peshawar, and its administration working under the CPDP. 

He, however, said the Church administration and Bishop of Diocese have been kept away from the matters of the Edwards College Peshawar, due to intervention of Elementary and Secondary Education Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 

They said the Board of Governors had removed its Principal Titus without serving him any explanation notice. He said according to constitution of Edwards College Peshawar, the Bishop Church of Pakistan Diocese has authorized to appoint and remove principal f the college. He asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to stop intervention into affairs of the education institutions affiliated with the CPDP. 

Ejaz Gill said that said the Christian community has neither accepted existing board of Governors nor allowing intervention of KP Education Department into affairs of the college. He asked President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif to immediate dissolve the existing Board of Governors, and re-constitute the board, otherwise the community would compel to start protest demonstrations, and hold hunger strikes
