Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) provincial head and member of the Taliban negotiations committee Prof Mohammad Ibrahim Khan on Friday said that the Taliban had dropped hints to release the kidnapped vice -chancellor of the Islamic College University Ajmal Khan.

Talking to reporters in Akora Khattak, he said the government should also release the Taliban prisoners including the women, children and elderly persons as a goodwill gesture.

He said that the Taliban political shura had presented its demands, which would soon be conveyed to the government talks team. He said the Taliban had nothing to do with the recent terror acts.

Prof Ibrahim said they held two rounds of talks with the Taliban’s political shura. He said the Taliban had told them that if the government released the women and children as a goodwill gesture it would help take the talks process forward.
