A secondary school student was arrested for protesting against a raid on a house by law-enforcement agencies in Parachinar, Kurram Agency. As a result, he was not allowed to appear for his matriculation exams.

Officials told The Express Tribune on Sunday Zubair Abbas, who hailed from Parachinar, was arrested by the political administration as he was said to be part of a mass gathering against the raid on a house in Basto village. Basto is situated near Parachinar.

Officials added residents of the village protested against the raid as they feared militants disguised as security forces personnel wanted to carry out terror acts in the area. They also protested against the negligent behavior of authorities as the village elders were not informed of the raid in advance.

The official said security forces asked the political administration to arrest Zubair. However, despite frequent requests by his parents and local elders, the authorities did not allow Zubair to take his matric exams. According to Frontier Crimes Regulations, women, aged people and teenagers are exempted from arrests.
