UET Peshawar celebrates 33rd Foundation Day

The University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar celebrated its 3rd Foundation Day with the theme “Past, Present and Future”, here today. The vice chancellor, Imtiaz Gilani was the chief guest on the occasion. As part of programme senior faculty members and chairmen delivered speeches on various aspects of UET including its history, achievements and impediments faced in the beginning. 

The vice chancellor said this day has been celebrated for the first time in UET history since its establishment on 23rd October, 1980. While considering the importance of Foundation Day, the vice chancellor announced that this day will be coincided with annual convocation from now onwards. He urged faculty members to continue the legacy of success and continued hard work achieved through united spirit. 

“In last few years”, he said, “University has grown into six campuses with a new campus being established in Jalozai. With the establishment of this campus we will be able to accommodate four thousand students, in addition to 3000 students already studying in Main Campus, Peshawar and other satellite campuses in Mardan, Bannu, Kohat and Abbotabad”. 

He said the University is successfully running semester system which has enabled the graduates to complete their engineering education in just four years. 

He said the University achieved highest development portfolio of Rs. 9.56 billion amongst Khyber Pahtunkhwa’s public sector universities. 

Through this development fund, he added, the University has established four centers of excellence in which the Earthquake Engineering Center has made tremendous achievements.

The faculty is actively involved in state of the art research and engaged in installation of equipment at this center with which Pakistan will soon become 4th in the world having state-of-the-art seismic equipment (Shake Table). 

Prof Dr. Mansoor Ahmad. Professor Mining Engineering, Prof. Dr. Noor Muhammad. Chairman Mining Engineering Department, Prof. Zahir Khan, professor electrical engineering and Prof. Sardar Ali professor Mathematics shared their past experiences on the occasion. Dr. Innayatullah Babar Chairman Electrical engineering presided over the programme. 

They collectively paid tribute to the effort of teaching faculty for proving themselves in their respective fields by providing quality teaching and vice chancellor and staff for readiness to accept new ideas and building institutional linkages and connecting their link to the real world.
