UET Peshawar convocation Asif, Suleman, Muhsin bag Presidential Awards

In all 780 graduates including 128 with masters in engineering, Asif Ali Khan, Muhammad Suleman and Muhsin Ihsan bagged Presidential Awards besides gold medals while Fahad Liaquat, Syed Zain Rasool Shah, Muhammad Rasheed, Syed Zulqadar Hassan, Abid ur Rehman, Shah Hussain, Arshad Ali,Yawar Shah Muhammad Yasir Khan, Muhammad Hanif and Muhammad Haroon were also honoured with gold medals in acknowledgement of their outstanding performance.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Engineer Shaukatullah Tuesday said urged universities’ scholars to take up innovative projects; bring direct and positive impact in daily lives and come forward with ideas in overcoming the challenges that the country is facing today.

Addressing as the chief guest at the 15th Convocation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa University of Engineering and Technology in Peshawar, he remarked that economic prosperity of societies is directly related to delivery of quality education and therefore level of knowledge and skills have become the basic criteria for socio economic prosperity of nations.

“The Countries which had taken care of this fact; have changed the destinies of their people and we also have been making efforts to strengthen higher education sector in the country”, he added.

Referring to the Annual Report presented by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, the Governor appreciated its upcoming flagship program in collaboration with an International Agency under the name of “Centre of Advanced Studies in Energy and said that it indeed carries great hope to contribute in managing energy crisis in the country.

He also appreciated the worthwhile exchange programs of UET in research with world renowned institutions, adding that it beyond doubt rightly deserved to expand its horizons and its academic growth is acclaimed on many counts.

He also lauded the significant growth in the number of Ph.D scholars from 18 in 2002 to more than 80 now, and pointed out that it shows a clear vision of the management and faculty and it is hoped that with the joining of another lot of Ph.D scholars, the university will be in much better position, he remarked.

Earlier, Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani while presenting the annual report of the university welcomed the Governor and the guests and said that they have introduced PhD program in the university and 50 candidates have already been registered for the current session.

The university, he added, is also successfully running Earthquake Study Centre of Excellence and due to which we as the nation have become 4th amongst the comity of nations internationally for having this system of learning.

As far as study programs are concerned, he added, accessibility, quality and need based education are their core aspects in enabling the students to seek higher knowledge. Earlier, the Governor gave away degrees and awards to graduates.
