UET Peshawar MOU with KP Disaster Management Authority

The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority/Provincial Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Settlement Authority (PDMA-PaRRSA) for disaster resilient structures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The MoU was signed at the UET campus by Vice Chancellor Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani and Director General PDMA-PaRRSA Muhammad Tahir Orakzai in the presence of dean, registrar UET, director operations PDMA and head DRM Strategic Unit, PDMA. The MoU is aimed at collaboration in areas of academic/knowledge exchange, capacity building, trainings, advocacy events and research initiatives in the field of disaster management in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Both the parties agreed to utilise technical expertise and world class equipment at the UET, Peshawar to test critical and vulnerable infrastructure in the province for disaster resilience.They also agreed to specifically work for the capacity building of local community and institutions in the field of disaster management through workshops, trainings and skill development. At the end of the ceremony, a guided tour of Earthquake Engineering Centre was conducted by Dr Syed M Ali, Director Earthquake Engineering Centre, where he showed the world class equipment, shake tables and related testing and research facilities of earthquake-resilience to director general and members of PDMA. Others present at the event were manager ORIC and members of the National Institute of Urban Infrastructure Planning (NIUIP), UET.
