UN Day observed at Department of IR UoP

The Department of International Relations observed the United Nations day, Thursday, in which a large number of students participated.

The basic aim of the event was to highlight the importance and significance of United Nations in the contemporary International Politics, marked by the phenomena of globalization and complex interdependence, said Prof. Dr. Adnan Sarwar, while addressing the ceremony.

He suggested that the UN Security Council needs to be reformed and the veto power should be abolished so as to ensure, that, all the decisions in this body should be taken with the approval of the two third majorities of the member states. However he unlined that overall there was no alternative of the UN in attaining global peace and harmony among nations.

Students of the Department presented their topics to highlight different aspects of the United Nations as an important International organization.

The students included Mir Wais of BS 5th semester who presented history of UN, Asim Khattak BS 7th semester talked on the aims and objective of UN, Haroon Rashid of BS 5th semester on reforming the UN security council and Ikram Marwat of MA final gave presentation on United Nations: Prospects and Challenges.
