The Regional Directorate of Human Rights of the federal government observed the Universal Children Day with a theme to raise awareness among children about their rights at the girls’ school in Gulbahar No 1.The Regional Directorate of Human Rights, which is under the Ministry of Law and Justice Division, arranged the Universal Children Day function.
Speaking on the occasion, Ghulam Ali, regional director, stated that Pakistan is the first among the 20 countries that ratified UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. According to its article 19, 34 and 37, it is the state responsibility to protect children from all kinds of abuse and exploitation.
Director Schools and Literacy Rafiq Khattak, Peshawar District Officer (DO) Education Samina Ghani, Shakira Bukhari and others also spoke on the occasion.Banners and placards were displayed inscribed with slogans regarding rights of children. The children also performed skits and tableau showing violation of child rights in the society.
