University of Peshawar launch Alumni Association

The University of Peshawar Alumni Association (UOPAA) aims to develop relations between all members of the Alumni, promote continuing education and create opportunities for networking for all our members. This was stated by the chief guest, Secretary Home and Tribal Affairs, Mr Akhtar Ali Shah. He was speaking on the occasion of the first annual dinner get together of the UOPAA. He recalled his old memories of his student life and admired the progression and promotion of his Alma Mater. He also appreciated the links between the University and corporate sector of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 

The function was opened with an introduction of the Alumni Association by Dr. Syed Hussain Shaheed Soherwordi, Coordinator of the UOPAA. He highlighted aims, vision, mission and objectives of the UOPAA. Dr Soherwordi said that to better achieve its vision the Alumni Association was going to establish departmental alumni networks which will have its annual reunions sponsored by the Alumni of the University. 

He urged former students to come forward and contribute in development of their University. Dr. Soherwordi said that he will run activities and forge links that enhance the network made up of the entire Peshawar University’s community through events on campus, off-site or online. 

In this regard, he also expected that the Alumni will take keen interest in contributing to the developmental projects for their Alma Mater. Dr Qibla Ayaz, dean Faculty of Islamic and Arabic Studies gave a detailed perspective of the Alumni globally. He sketched its historical background from Greeks to Alazhar, Aligarh, Nadwatulullama and Duoband. He was one of the pioneers in coining the concept of UOPAA. Keeping in view Aleegh, Islamian, Duobandi, he gave a name of Upeshians to the graduates of the University of Peshawar. Vice Chancellor, Dr Rasul Jan, while concluding the function, committed University to the cause of promotion of the Alumni. He said that the greater universities of the world cannot run without its Alumni. It’s unfortunate that the University of Peshawar was not having its own Alumni till now, he said. As a global organization, the Alumni Association’s main objective is to expand worldwide in line with Peshawar University’s core values. Hence, Dr Rasul Jan pledged to publicize Peshawar University’s academic activities and the talent of its graduates in the academic and professional environment. 

He also said that the University administration and staff will strive to ensure that Peshawar University’s mission and values are upheld by present and future generations of students, alumni, faculty and staff.
