Dr. Fayaz Ali of Department of Geology and Jameel Ahmad Chitrali of Anthropology elected on Assistant professor and lecturer posts of University of Peshawar Syndicate Committee, in the elections of the year 2013 for the said posts which were held in the varsity on Tuesday.
Fayaz Ali received 85 votes while his opponent Dr. Sheer Zaman Chairman of Philosophy Department got 65 votes while five votes were rejected by presiding officers. Similarly, Jamel Ahmad Chetrali was elected for the lecturer position in the syndicate after receiving 81 votes leaving Mohammad Sajid of Geology Department behind who received sixty-three votes while number of votes as large as 15 were rejected by presiding officers. It is worth mentioning that votes were been polled by lecturers and professors of the varsity.
Both winner contestants belonging to Friends Group of UoP, were on their positions in the last tenure of syndicate committee and once again the got votes of confidence for upcoming three years while their opponents were belonging to Tanzeem-e-Asatiza, Progressive group and independent group of the varsity.
Meanwhile, President of Peshawar University Teachers’ Association and Central General Secretary of Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations Jamil Ahmed said that current National elections would prove a positive omen for the Higher education sector. He anticipated that next provincial and national government would end illiteracy and will work for growth of quality human resource.
