The National Centre for Physics (NCP), Islamabad in collaboration with the Institute of Physics & Electronics, University of Peshawar (UoP) and Centre for Physics Education (CPE), Karachi organized a daylong meeting of Women Physicists of Pakistan at NCP Quaid-i-Azam University Campus Islamabad.
The objectives of the meeting were to discuss the agenda of 5th International Conference on Women in Physics 2014 and to form a working group of women in all areas of Physics at each university of Pakistan in order to have an active representation of Pakistan at international forums.
The meeting also chalked out a line of action for women in all areas of physics in order to join the activities of international community of women physicists besides addressing gender issues, and promote the participation of women in all areas of physics in Pakistan. The moot was also aimed at providing a forum for networking opportunities building a strong and diverse community in Pakistan that can stand shoulder to shoulder with physicists the world over.
Through the structured activities of the work group (s) to be set up by the end of this event, we should be able to initiate concerted efforts that would help change the prevailing culture of least representation of women in physics in Pakistan, said Dr. Aneesa Qamar faculty member of the Institute of Physics and Electronics University of Peshawar and organizer of the meeting. She added the idea is certainly not to undermine the efforts and contribution of the opposite gender towards the development of physics but would like to help our country Pakistan in exploiting the potentials of the under-represented half of the population.
