Mothers narrated their success stories in a ceremony held to mark world Mother’s Day here at the Convocation Hall of the University of Peshawar. Thinking of modern education especially for females was an impossible/risky task some thirty years back when I started my journey towards equipping my kids with the best education in the North Waziristan Agency, said Mrs. Farzand Ali Khan (Santer Bibi) of Miramshah in the ceremony. She added I joined an ordinary job in the Agency Head Quarter Hospital (Miramshah) and was thus able to educate my children and am glad that today one of my daughter is a  gynecologist, son Group Captain in Pak Air force and the rest in the civil service of Pakistan.

The International Mothers Day function was held under the aegis of University of Peshawar, Govt. of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Peshawar Uplift Programme and South Asian Center for International and Regional Studies. Secretary Higher Education Mrs. Farah Hamid was the chief guest of the ceremony. Besides two hundred proud mothers and good number of students and faculty members of UoP were also among the participants.

Principal college of home economics Dr. Syeda Kaneez Fatima, Principal Jinnah College for Women were also among the recipients of the award.

The day long function was full of emotions as the speakers and the performances reiterated the importance of mothers in the life of an individual and the resolve to change the socially constructed Identity of mothers in Pakistan.

Being the mother institution, University of Peshawar is playing its due role in giving educated mothers to the country especially the pakhtun soil, said Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan in his address. He added the notion of mothers day as a western event was not true and said that positives of both the east and west can be adopted while negatives should be thrown away to bring improvement in the society. If on the face of earth there is an undisputed person in the life of an individual and with whom one can share each and every thing then that could only be a mother, the Vice Chancellor said

The importance of a mother in our lives can be judged by the ones who do not have their mothers alive, said Secretary Higher Education Mrs. Farah Hamid Khan. Shed added the most unbearable thing for a mother is when her children is in trouble while the tragedy of her life is when she sees her kids die. That is why the mothers of martyrs should have special place in our society, Mrs. Hamid concluded.
