The World Space Week, 2013 has been commenced at the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar in joint collaboration with SUPARCO, here today. Zubair Qureshi, Executive Director Urban Policy Unit (UPU), Govt. of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa addressed the audiences as chief guest.
He highlighted the importance of gaining unexplored knowledge of space and upper atmosphere and develop understanding to use the space technology on academic as well as practical fields. “As I am leading Urban Policy Unit, I can see this technology can be used in GIS and collecting information for improved city planning, adding, we need to pick and choose ideas to bring improvements in our daily lives and respective fields”. He appreciated the efforts of UET, Peshawar in organizing this international event for last four years with SUPARCO successfully.
Dean Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr Zahid Mehmood while addressing the audiences said UET, Peshawar is interested to foster more linkages in research and development with SUPARCO as there are established centers of excellence and more than 80 Ph. D’s in specialized engineering fields who can work with SUPARCO in joint programs.
Khalid Shiekh, Director General, System Controls, SUPARCO briefed the audiences about World Space Week and SUPARCO activities. He said the World Space Week is an international celebration of space sciences and technology and their contribution for the betterment of human condition. This week has commenced at UET, Peshawar with an overarching theme “Exploring Mars: discovering Earth” supported with seminars, quizzes, model making competition, followed by space walk.
