National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa organized a Seminar in NAB KP office on 28 May 2014. The seminar theme was “Corruption: Causes, Islamic Perspective and Remedies”. It was part of the NAB’s awareness campaign against corruption. Director General NAB KP Mr. Shehzad Saleem presided over and inaugurated the seminar. Dr Fakhr-ul-Islam Director Pakistan Study Centre was one of the key note speakers. Other speakers included Qari Fayazur Rahman, Dr. Shamsul Haq Hanif, Mufti Ghulamur Rahman and Qari Roohullah Madani.
In his speech Dr. Fakhar gave causes of corruption which included both natural and nurtured. The main reason is lust and greed. Similarly economic disparities, consumerism and extravaganza displayed by media too contribute. On the other hand lack of fear of God, week democratic base and absence of rule of law; make Pakistan the most conducive place for corruption. He told the gathering that only enforcement by NAB and similar organizations will not work. Eradication of this menace needs holistic approach. Unless all stake holders are kept on board and unless all the systems are revamped anew, the dream of rooting out corruption may not be realized.
