Girl students of Presentation Convent High School Risalpur, Nowshera, grabbed all the three top positions in the secondary school certificate (SSC) annual examinations-2014 held under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Mardan.
The board’s controller of examinations, Prof Mohammad Aslam, announced the names of position holders and gave the related details at a press conference here on Sunday.
According to the results, Aimen Romaan Khan secured first position in the board exams by obtaining 1,035 marks while Zarghoona Shah and Safina Tanveer clinched second and third positions by getting 1,027 and 1,022 marks, respectively.
The board official said that Karishma Bibi of Government Girls High School Ikrampur, Mardan, stood first with 869 marks in the humanities group; Abdul Basit Khan Khattak of Government High School Shaidu, Nowshera, second with 867 marks, while Urooj Rafique of the Moonlight Public High School, Topi, got third position with 861 marks.
Mr Aslam said that a total of 56,949 students appeared in the SSC annual examinations of which 42,408 were declared successful with 74.47 per cent pass percentage. Similarly, 33,740 of total 59,496 candidates passed the grade-9 board examinations with 56.71 pass percentage.
The Mardan board administration, on the occasion, gave away cash prizes of Rs50,000, Rs45,000 and Rs40,000 to the top three position holders, respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Mardan BISE chairman Prof Abdul Jabbar said that the cash prizes were given to the position holders to recognise their hard work and encourage them to continue efforts for excelling in exams.
Despite tall claims of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-led provincial government of taking steps to ensure quality education in the government schools all the top positions in science group were grabbed by private school students. Also, no student of the government schools could make it to the list of top 20 position holders in the SSC exams-2014.
MALAKAND BOARD: Students of private educational institutions bagged top 10 positions in the annual results of SSC examinations-2014, announced by the BISE, Malakand, on Sunday. A function in this regard was held at the board offices with BISE chairman Fazal Rabi in the chair.
According to the results, Abdul Wahab of Alfalah Public High School, Sadiqabad Bajaur Agency, secured 1,016 marks of total 1,100 and stood first in the board. Ms Atia Fida of Zafar Iqbal Shaheed Army Public School, Dargai Malakand, stood second while Gulalai of Malakand Public School, Dargai, and Ms Sara Mishi Khan of Oxford Education Academy, Batkhela, shared the third position with 1,001 marks each. All these students belonged to the science group.
A total of 71,540 candidates appeared in the examinations of which 54,061 were declared successful.
In humanities group, Ms Bushra Bibi of Government Girls’ High School, Badam Baghecha, bagged first position by securing 874 marks; Shehzad Ahmad of Talash second with 859 marks and Ms Noor Kainat of Government Girls’ High School, Khar Batkhela, 848 marks for the third position.
In grade-9, a total of 37,384 candidates appeared in the board exams of which 26,791 were declared passed. The chairman gave away medals and prizes to the position holders.
